24 on the 24th
happy birthday to me!
working on your birthday isn't the best but its not the worst thing in the world.
i leave for d.c. tomorrow morning and havent packed a thing...getting myself to the airport is going to be a challenge as well. wont be back till saturday...but then i get monday AND tuesday off! yes, be jealous.
my parents called and sang happy birthday to me on my voicemail this morning...a lot better than last year when they called a few days ahead and did that..
thanks to everyone who has sent bday messages, emails etc...my birthday...birthweek...has been a great one!
where do i even begin?? this past weekend was easily one of the best, funnest weekends ive ever had. kelly and christian came in for the whole weekend and we stayed busy from beginning to end...heres a recap!
the fun began on thursday...kel and christian and kristen all came in from dallas. we decided to make dinner that nite bc we knew we were going to be eating out a lot...so we made tacos and margaritas and watched the o.c. finale! bryan came over later and we all just hung out and talked and stuff. it was soo good to have kel in my actual vicinity - not 20 hours away and only reachable by phone!
the next day, friday, i had to go to work which was rough. i could barely keep my eyes open bc i hadnt made it to bed around my normal 1030pm bedtime like my normal grandma-ish self. bryan and i met the girls at whole foods for lunch and kel sported her camelbak proving that she could easily fit in with the earthy, outdoorsy austinites. then us working kids had to return to corporate america for a few more hours and the girls went to play at the mall. unfortunately kristen had to leave after that but im sooo glad she made it in for the short time she did!! that nite we got real cute and went to hula hut. it was evidently the place to be that nite bc we were definitely there from about 745 till 11!!! but the food was great and i like anything near the lake!!! we met some random guy, jordan, that was coincidently from vail and wanted us to come party with his friends but we kindly declined. so after the longest dinner ever we went back to the apt for drinks, dessert, balcony time, and some felicity watching :) b/w the alcohol that christian brought from home and what i got at the liquor store that day we probably could have run a full bar but dont worry, we drank responsibly ;)
saturday was fantastic and christian even said it was "one of the best days of her life!!!" we started the day off with some pool time - probably the best way to start off any day!! kel, who has been nicknamed 'casper' by a friend in CO, discovered hours later that maybe her skin wasnt quite ready for the intense sun all at once. needless to say, she looked like a lobster. after we caught some rays we hit the drag for some downtown shopping. the weather was pretty nice and we all got some GREAT purchases. some of the highlights were christian telling me i looked 'real asian' in some sunglasses that i then decided not to get, and kel picking up tons of things where i would immediately say, 'thats the ugliest thing ive ever seen.' after we had had enough of shopping we walked around downtown, the capitol, and UT campus. we got some pretty great pictures too! then i gave them a little driving tour of soco and my beloved town lake and then we headed home...
saturday nite! we got dressed in our downtown finest and i wont hesitate in saying that we looked pretty dang good =) we hit up oslo and danced for a while and then met up with ben and his friends for a while. after a while they all decided to head home, but not before we snagged one of their friends and made him stay with us. his name was sean, but christian liked to call him 'orange.' his last name was ulrich which i guess kinda sounds like orange...but still. anyways, lets just call him 'amazing dancer.' so once we got him, we went back to oslo and stayed there till the place closed. so much fun! kel and christian both caught some jungle fever and me and 'amazing dancer' kept it real on the dance floor. sadly, the dancing had to end at 3 but dont worry, the nite was far from being over. we headed back to where all the guys had gone and thats when we got to witness zach in the most intoxicated state ever. in one word, 'entertaining.' we laughed for like 30 minutes straight. all that dancing had worked up an appetite for us all so then we went to kerbey lane - thank goodness for great 24 hour restaurants!! 'amazing dancer' and another guy graham, who we can name 'funniest guy ever' came along too and needless to say, we had a great time. after that it was finally time to call it a night...we got home around 5am and being the girls that we are, talked till about 6am before we decided it might be good to get in bed before the sun came up. great conversation though...very worth that extra hour of staying up...
we got up around 1230 on sunday but only bc we had to meet bryan for lunch. the first thing the waitress said to us when we sat down was, 'yall look really tired..' um yeah. after lunch we all got pedicures!! it was my bday treat from the girls and it was fantastic...those massage chairs are incredible! after some more laying out when we got home, it was sadly time for christian to drive back to big d. :(
ALL TO SAY, my bday weekend was the BEST EVER! kel and ck - thanks for ALL the great memories. it was a weekend of WAY too many misheard things that turned into almost pee in our pants moments but i wouldnt trade it for anything. yall are the best.
heres my latest endeavor. im going to own a boat by the time im 26, possibly 27. im about to be 24 so 26 might be cutting it close since i have to pay off some debt first so thats why im giving myself an extra year. what brought on this idea? well..sometimes at lunch ill eat down by the lakeshore where people take their boats in and out of the water and it occurred to me how great it would be to have a boat. especially if you live in austin where you have like 6 different lakes to choose from..plus, in texas you have great boating weather 80% of the year! honestly, i dont see why more people dont have boats. i even started looking on craigslist everyday to see what was up for sale! so i didnt know if this was a crazy idea or not so i proposed it to my friend ben and he did laugh at first but then agreed that it was a good idea and actually feasible. we decided that for about 6K i could get a decent boat that could pull skiers and such. he said i could get a cheaper one but it might not be powerful enough to pull people...now, what would be the point of that? why have a boat if you cant use it to ski..im not going to be fishing off of it. so yeah..6 grand. and then he said that boats require a lot of upkeep and stuff and since i know nothing about boats i said i would just have 'a boat guy' to keep it working and pretty and stuff. and of course my boat guy could use the boat whenever he liked. ben offered to be my boat guy but im not sure how i feel about that. he claims to have worked at a boat shop for a while however was fired..hmm. i was telling derrell about my boat idea and he also offered to be my boat guy. he might be a better contender...and he has a real cute dog so thats bonus points for him. so will i really go thru with this? who knows, but i think so. when it comes to big purchases that i really want, i have a tendency to get them even if they seem frivilous or impractical to others...im really good at justifying the purchase so that i dont regret it. at first i had actually said i would have a boat by the time i was 28 and ben laughed. i asked him if he thought that wasnt long enough and he said no, i think youll have it before then. i decided he was probably right and moved the goal up a couple of years. sooo..there you have it. kate mccoy, boat owner...im excited already! if youre still friends with me in 2008 then maybe ill let ya take it out sometime ;)
what a weekend it was...starting on friday, my friend casey and i went to a place called guero's for dinner. yummy mexican food with good atmosphere - we got a lot of good people watching time in. then we actually saw a girl from our junior high days there so when we got back home we called my best friend jen to tell her. well that turned into a two hour conversation on speakerphone but it was so much fun...lots of laughing.
saturday was a real busy day starting with a bday party with 13 hyper kids all under the age of 6. but at least we got cake and ice cream right? i got to play with my neice and nephew berkekely and ellie all afternoon which was great - aren't they adorable?? (see pics above) then my family celebrated mom's day early bc we had some relatives in town...so we had dinner on saturday - i had to just eat a little bit bc i was saving room for crawfish!!
so then the crawfish boil...ben bummed a ride up to cs and back but it was good bc i hadnt seen him all year and it was good to have the company for the ride. the crawfish was fantastic and i made sure to eat my fair share and probably someone elses too. patin said i was 'a good eater' so i felt i needed to live up to my name. there were tons of people there - a lot of which i had been wanting to see and hadn't all semester so that was fun. oh and derrells new puppy is sooo cute! the highlight of the evening was either when ben jumped out the window to go get a girls number or when he was wearing a watermelon helmet that was made especially for him...yeah bringing him was definitely the right choice - he was entertaining to all. after the 3rd round of crawfish had been picked through, the boil started winding down. all in all, id say it was a huge success. the trip to cs only lasted about 12 hours or so but it was well worth the drive.
so that was the weekend...we got back by lunch on sunday but when i got home i crashed on the couch for the rest of the afternoon. i just cant handle the late nites like i used to be able to...that is so sad...when did i get soo old??
but now its monday and im back at work and so tired...mondays just have a way of doing that to me. it doesnt matter if i get enough sleep or even too much...ill still be tired just because its monday...probably bc its so far from friday. 15 days till my birthday and 10 days till kelly and christian are here, but who's counting? :)
im finally going to satisfy my crawfish craving on saturday. i do have to drive to cs for it but it will be worth it. might be the last time i see some of those guys for a while seeing as how theyre graduating and all!!! congrats to patin, pebbles, mike, and rielly(in aug.)!
on saturday i get to go to a birthday party..for my five year old nephew, berkeley. my sister just informed me that at least 11 other kids have rsvp'd. just how i like to spend my saturday afternoons - with 12 hyper cake-filled 5 year olds! itll be fun though...im sure ill be forced to wear a party hat for the whole time bc berkeley really likes those...
18 days till my birthday! and its my golden birthday...i think thats the name for it...im turning 24 on the 24th. yeah...24...wow..when did i get in my mid twenties?? 13 days till i get to see my friend kelly who has been frolicking in vail since december...i cant wait! i was just looking on a website that had all this interesting information on birthdays. did you know...may is asian pacific american heritage month? im not pacific american, but im asian and everyone throws us in the same category anyways. its also better hearing and speech, better sleep, tennis, and egg month! those are all separate categories, of course. here's some more interesting info on the weeks of the month...first week - be kind to animals week. 2nd - gamblers and stuttering awareness week. 3rd - safe boating week. 4th - pickle week...of cours its my bday week..i hate pickles! famous celebrities i share my day with - the legendary bob dylan and soul sister patti labelle. i just love useless random information...
the sixers season is sadly over. they just couldnt pull out enough wins against detroit. so for now i will have to settle for the AI reebok commercials until next season rolls around. i am now rooting for the rockets. they pulled out a great victory last nite to force game 7. i hope they win and advance to the next round. if they dont...ill pick another team to go for..thats kinda how i do it.
ive raised my endurance level and can now run the whole 4.5 mile loop at town lake. i did it twice this week but decided from now on ill leave a day of rest in between runs to keep my legs from falling off. but anyways, im so proud of myself...hopefully i can keep it up. i think thats about all i have for now. its going to be a busy weekend but im looking forward to it...lots of time with the fam and with friends, what can beat that?
yes, i admit firsthand that i am a tv junkie. however, i think there are people out there that are a lot worse. yes, i have a designated tv show that i watch every weeknite minus fridays but really thats all of the tv watching i do per week plus a few hours here and there on a saturday and sunday probably. and the shows i watch are GOOD shows so im not ashamed...
monday - 24. ok wow...this is an INCREDIBLE show. i got hooked a few years ago when patin, ben, jax, meghan, and i decided we wanted to get into it and watched ENTIRE seasons in a days worth time. yeah, we would seriously watch 24 episodes within 24 hours. needless to say we got hooked fast. its now in the fourth season with only 3 episodes left which is so sad...i dont know what ill do without the jaw-dropping, action packed escapades of jack bauer.
tuesday - one tree hill. ok, this one is a little embarrassing to admit bc it is a cheesy teeny bopper show on the WB but i do watch it religiously. and so do christian and alison and they arent in high school either! its also drama filled but in a more ridiculous, unrealistic way...im just glad i dont live in one tree hill.
wednesday - Lost. got into this one a few weeks late but thru ryan's convincing and a supply of all the missed shows on burned cds i was able to catch up and inevitably get hooked. its a weird show, it is, but still addictive...or maybe im just a sucker for a somewhat interesting tv show. yeah, i could probably get hooked into anything if i watched it enough..
thursday - O.C. yeah, another somewhat teeny bopper show where there are 25 year old actors playing 17 year olds. but cmon, who doesn't watch the O.C.?? seth's neurotic dorkiness is somehow cute and ryan's rough around the edges persona is just hot.
friday/saturday - nothing! ha, so there...although an occasional what i like about you or ACL will be watched if im home bc i think amanda bynes is adorable and i love some good live music performances.
sunday - extreme makeover: home edition. ok wow, this show is amazing. they have the most heartbreaking stories of families that are in desperate need of better living conditions and they totally pimp these houses out. they build houses in a week and make them absolutely incredible inside with probably millions of dollars of cool stuff. but theyre so heartfelt and yeah, i cry pretty much every week. grey's anatomy. this is my new favorite show. to describe it, kristen put it well..its like ER but more relational. yeah, it just started a few weeks ago and its great.
ok...i cant talk about great tv shows without discussing one of my favorite tv shows of all time which isn't on air anymore - FELICITY! yeah, one of the greatest shows ever. a couple of years ago the dvd series started coming out and i was so excited i could watch the episodes all over again. i decided i needed to share to love and quickly got kelly, kristen, eileen, and umm..rielly...completely sucked in. and now christian is playing catch up and watching them all over again. the fourth season just came out a couple of months ago which we had been waiting for since last year. i rushed out and bought it and now kristen and rielly are in the middle of what is one of the best and most intense seasons EVER. i mean, you can totally connect with the characters and basically ben is the hottest character to ever roam the earth. here's a funny story - last nite im talking to kristen bc she had just watched like a ton of episodes in a row and her husband, jeff had called asking for a ride home from campus. yeah, she explained to him that she was in the middle of felicity and so...he walked home!!! yeah, that shows you what the show does to you. it just sucks you in...you cant leave...you just keep watching episode after episode...we have to have discussions after the good episodes bc you just feel for the characters so much and need to talk about the problems so that you'll be ok!! its unreal, i know...but its SOO fun! shes calling me after she watches the finale today...yeah, i cried uncontrollably - like the hyperventilating kind - and am pretty positive she will too. i love it! i love it!
alright..well, ive officially laid it all out...you now know a little more about my ridiculous life. hopefully youll still wanna be my friend despite my evident weakness for a good tv show.
