a day in the life...

today is day one of week five at my job. by now i have a good grasp of everything i do and how to do it. however, the work load is still minimal to say the least. people ask me what i do at work. so here's a day in the life:

leave for work around 735AMarrive around 815AMfrom 815~915 - definitely no real work is accomplished. however necessary duties such as checking my email, checking the daily woot item, checking box scores and recaps from sixers games from the previous nite if there were any, and sometimes making a cup of hot chocolate are a part of my daily morning routine. sometimes these 'necessary duties' stretch into the 10 o'clock hour. i cant really account for what happens b/w 10~12. i usually dont do any work though, i know that. somewhere around this time, i discover that christian has become bored at her job in dallas as well so we begin our daily routine of consistent emailing back and forth. besides that...sometimes i wander around the office...sometimes i play some games on the internet...or organize the workroom that houses all the brochures and such. i find myself getting hungry anywhere from 9-11 so i start thinking about what im going to go get for lunch or what i have brought and try to not starve until lunchtime actually occurs.

12ish - lunch time! easily, my favorite part of the day. not because i get to take a break from work though seeing as how i havent actually done any work yet. its my favorite part bc it involves eating - my favorite pastime. 1ish - this is when i do a little work. i process the few orders we've recieved up to that point, pack them up, and ship them out. that usually takes about...an hour..and if im lucky, two. i definitely take my time though. 2ish~3ish - this is when sheer boredom ensues. this is when i go to my boss's office and ask/beg for something to do. if im lucky, she'll have a random task for me. i joyfully accept and do it. when im done i give it back and ask for more. to my dismay, she usually doesnt have something else that day to give me so i go back to my office and carry out some of the 'necessary duties' from the morning such as checking email and such. i probably spend a general estimate of 2-3 hours alone a day browsing the internet. so if you know of any good sites, pass them my way!
starting at about 445 i begin the countdown to 5. at about 458 i turn off my computer and count the seconds down to 5. promptly at five i say goodbye to my boss and am out the door.

i then get the privilege of driving and sitting in traffic for the 45 minutes that it takes me to get home. on a good day i have not cussed, honked, or told anyone that i hate them as im driving :) traffic and i are not friends, but im doing my best to accept it despite our differences.

thats basically a day in the life...i know you feel sorry for all the work i have to do everyday...its a hard life, but someones gotta do it right?

marc broussard

last nite i went to stubbs to hear marc broussard play some songs. in one word - fantastic. lets first talk about the opening acts.

first was toby lightman. she had a great voice and put on a good performance. there were some girls standing in front of us that were probably her number one fans. i think they were in love with her..and i mean..IN LOVE...it was entertaining to say the least.

next was citizen cope. words cant really express his show. i think he knows about 4 notes and every song is like a cry for help. to give an example of his musical depth, he had a song called mistaken identity bc "there was this guy who always called me randy..and thats not my name" yeah..no joke. it was just painful to listen to honestly.

and then the main event. marc broussard. what a great show. my favorite part about live shows is the extent of creativity that the artist chooses to use when performing their songs. extended guitar solos where the players just kinda shine in their element is so fun to listen to. his show was really fun and the encore performance was terrific. plus, he has a new guitar player, jasper, who's cute and from australia...whats not to love about that??

in addition, this weekend was great bc i got to see christian, cam, parker, and jojo! busy weekend makes for a tired me though so its off to bed early!!

what a weekend!

this weekend was a little overwhelming, but great! i got to see so many friends that i wont be able to see on a regular base like im used to. i got to hang out with alison and josh and lyd and eat at olive garden not only on tues. nite, but on friday nite as well. ali and josh have a strong love for the restaurant and have no shame in eating there twice within 4 days. and another great thing that happened on friday was that i got a REAL bed! and by real, i mean a queen!! its so big i dont know what to do with it. i said that to my mom and her response was, 'just dont put a boy in it with you.' thanks mom...but anyways, i got it for a terrific deal off of craigslist.org - kinda hard to explain what it is so just check it out for yourself. so now i have a wonderfully large bed and i love it!

then saturday kristen and jeff and patin and rielly and ryan all came to austin! it was so weird that we were all hanging out but weren't in cs. i was so spoiled in getting to see all of them at one time but i kinda wish they had spread it out a little bc come next week ill be all lonely! but still, im so glad they all came - and knowing me ill probably just go to cs next weekend if i dont have anything better to do! plus, eileen was here for the weekend thru student venture so i got to meet her at zilker park and see her for a bit! so we ate dinner at yummy chuys and had some interesting conversation to say the least. lets just say that once people are married, theyre just a lot more candid..or maybe its just jeff and kristen. so then everyone left sat nite... :( but its okay bc i know ill see them all soon. thanks again to everyone who made the trip - yall are the greatest!

today i tried a new church - austin stone. i like the church i grew up going to bc my youth pastor is now the head pastor and hes pretty amazing. the only problem is that there isnt a great 'after-college' group and im looking for something like that to get involved in and meet people my own age thru. otherwise, im not sure where i would make new friends. so i checked out austin stone with my friend casey and liked it. when i was telling my parents they thought i said 'austin stoned' and for good reason were a little skeptical. they thought i was joining some cult where everyone got high and not the kind of church high you get after summer camp. so i cleared that up and told them that yes, the church does believe in jesus. so anyways, its predominately college age and right outta college which is perfect. they have a lot of mid week bible study groups so i might try out one of those and see what theyre like. my same friend casey is also heading up a new inner city ministry there which is something im definitely interested in so thats another plus. so we'll see what happens. oh, and after church we grabbed dinner at hula hut which is one of my favorites!!!

so needless to say, i had a busy but great weekend!! i love my friends and will miss all of yall in cs a lot! and rie..even though you said 'out with the old, in with the new,' i know you couldnt possibly have meant it completely, right??? im just going to hope not...

"work"

so can you really call it 'working' when christian and i just email each other back and forth all day at work? the emailing is so constant that its basically like IMing. lucky for me she has free time as well so i have a chatting partner. anyone else who would like to take part, feel free! this is what i did most of the time i was at work this week...checked all my email addresses bc ive accumulated about 4 over the years, checked facebook, browsed on half.com, amazon.com, ebay.com, checked the daily item on woot.com - thanks patin for introducing me, check out jengajam.com - thanks to ryan for that, check out the sixers homepage and read bout AI, check bank account, credit card accounts, cell phone account...these are just a few of the things that i do during the day. a little work is mixed in here and there. they, meaning the people i work with, tell me its always slow at the beginning of the year and that things will pick up, which i fully believe. but honestly, im okay with the easy life right now. being paid to play on the internet - doesnt get much better than that. ill let yall know when i really start working...

feel free to distract me at work - kmccoy@medinstitute.org

im a workin girl

well ive almost completed my first week at work in what is supposed to be the 'real world.' the first day was a little scary, the second day they trusted me with a lot of responsibility and kinda let me off on my own, by the third day i had a general idea of everything i would be doing, and by today, the fourth day, i was already bored. but in an okay way. by bored i mean that the phone line was slow, i had processed all orders that had come in and i was basically just sitting at my desk...in my office.

yeah, thats right, i have my own office. its quite bare at the moment bc little did i know i would have an office to decorate! luckily i brought a cd with some mp3s on it to upload to my computer so i had music to listen to. i checked my email periodically..browsed the internet..read the policy handbook. lucky for me, christian gets bored at work too so we kept a nice constant email relay going on. it was basically like we were IMing each other..with a little work in between. gotta love that!

another highlight of my job is that the dress code is sooo casual. i think we're about a step away from being able to wear shorts and tshirts. people wear jeans...cordoroys...its awesome! the traffic isnt as bad as i thought either..i was expecting to have to drive about an hour each way with traffic but its only taking me about 30-35 min. which aint bad at all. and driving a new car makes it a little easier too ;) well, thats my week in review...im definitely lookin forward to the weekend!

i survived!

well today was the first day of work! i was a little nervous but everyone was so nice just like i expected. i was trained a little bit, went out to lunch, got trained a little more, and then went home at 1:30!! i was just kinda in the way and they had stuff to do so they just let me go home. it was awesome. then i drove all over austin signing various papers so that i could rightfully make my car mine..and now it is!! and i just love it of course! its been a long day though...got up around 630...left around 730 bc i wasnt sure how traffic would be but i ended up getting there by 8...wasnt supposed to be there till nine so i drove around for a bit and looked for possible lunch places and then parked in an obscure corner of the parking lot and took a little power nap. at least i know now that i can leave a little later and that means sleeping in a little bit more and that is wonderful! right now though i have a little bit of homework..i get to read up on abstinence and stds...bc yes, thats what the company i am working for is about. gotta love it...sex ed 101.

first day...

tomorrow is my first day of work at a 'real job.' im kinda nervous. the most nerve-racking thing is trying to figure out the best way to get there bc theres like 5 possible routes i could take...then you gotta account for oodles of traffic and stuff. so who knows. so we'll see how it goes.

i got to drive my new car around the block today. didnt get to take it home bc we haven't gotten the insurance switched over yet. so that was kinda a tease, but i love it so much!! who wouldnt love a new car!??! people ask if ill be sad to leave my old honda. umm...definitely not. not a lot of sentimental attachment to that one.

okay...time for bed. its only 11 and this might turn into a time thats actually past my bedtime. thats so sad. having a job where i have to be there at 8 might just kill me. wish me luck!!

a new year..

well the year ended well. as of the 31st i have a new black honda crv sitting in my driveway. thats by far the best thing of the year. ive never had a new car and i think it was pretty obvious that my poor honda was nearing the end of its life. i think i knew when the guy from the honda place called to give me a synopsis of what they had found in the 90 point inspection and started with 'you might want to sit down...' so ill be living off of the new car high for a while. new job, new car...great way to go into 2005. new years eve was fun. went to the west end with thousands of other fellow aggies. ill admit, the last thing i ever thought i would be doing for new years was midnite yell. so besides it turning 12..1201...1202 on everyones watches and there being no real countdown..i mean, who starts a countdown from 3?? so besides that and not getting a random new years make out session, i guess it was good. ok just for the record..i didnt really want the make out session...some people i know like to make up stories so im going to go ahead and make myself clear on that one now.

so then 2005 came in with some disappointments. aggie football anyone? yeah, i think everyone knows what happened so i wont go into that. then, tonite i had some 40 year old man wink at me at blockbuster. dirty, dirty man. i wanted to go home and take a shower.

tomorrow i go back to austin and start work on monday. im a little scared. ok, little is lying. im real scared. i know itll be fine but still...a new job where i dont have a clue as to what im doing?? my last week of freedom has been fun, relaxing, and surprising. am i ready for the real world? i guess so. i just hope its ready for me...
