rumor has it

well, ACL is right around the corner, a 5 month corner that is, and im already excited. even though the temperatures peak around 100 during the day and you sweat for a record 7-8 hours straight, its still so fun. but anyways, the official lineup is coming out next thursday, the 5th. on the radio this morning one of the guys says that he got some info about the festival from a reliable source who said that the black crowes, oasis, and coldplay will be playing. so who knows if its true, i guess we'll find out next thursday, but that would be pretty cool to see coldplay live.

i just figured out how to add the links to my posts. its kinda cool if you ask me and since i have a neverending amount of free time at work i decided to make the extra effort.

in other news, yesterday i went to barton creek mall on a quest for the perfect pair of jeans. 10 stores and hours and hours later i found some. i dont know if theyre perfect but they might be pretty close. finding great jeans is about as hard as finding a great bathing suit...if youre a girl - you totally understand what im saying. but once you find the 'perfect' pair then its all worth it right? yeah, it is.

one of my new favorite restaurants is la madeleine. i think i only went there once before this week and all i could remember them having is quiche. well, theres one right by work and so i decided to check out the menu and see if they had sold more than quiche. oh, they do! its amazing...i got a great sandwich, soup, and a side salad for like 7 bucks...and all of it was soo tasty. theres like 10 other things i wanna try there...and since i work so closeby, i will! so if youve never been then you should definitely go - its some gooood food.

i think im going to see beauty shop with some friends tonite...just so you know, when i was typing that i first typed beauty chop and then beauty ship...wow..anyways, im looking forward to it...i love black people...is that offensive? or not PC? hmm..i dunno..but its true and not derogatory so i guess i should be alright. i wish i had more black friends...or that i was more black myself...bc that would make me less asian...even though im about the least amount of asian that i could be...how did i get on this topic...

ok...thats all i have for now. i took some pictures of my office so that you could see where i spend a monotonous 8 hours of my day..but i left it at home so ill have to add those a little later

direction retarded

yes, i amaze myself with how terrible i am with directions. and ill be the first to admit this..i dont claim to know where im going and pretend like i know...i will eagerly volunteer the fact that i dont have a clue. if i get directions to someones house with lots of turns i am guaranteed to get lost on the way back. and then when you throw in N, S, E, and W when trying to tell me where to go then you've lost me for sure. to me, N is up and S is down so i dont do well when this is used to express directions of roads. the only way i get around austin is from memory, not from actually understanding where streets are and where they intersect others, so thank goodness my memory is fantastic :)
all this to say, i got lost at
town lake yesterday. yeah, one would think this to be pretty impossible bc the trail is essentially a loop. but somehow i got off the trail and ended up on barton springs road..after about 200 meters i thought that maybe i wasnt where i should be...the fact that the lake wasnt in sight kinda helped to affirm that decision. so then i backtracked and realized there was a little bridge i was supposed to take to get back to where i needed to me. however, i am still extremely baffled as to how i crossed two bridges and ended up on the same side of the lake. but anyways, i finally got back to the real trail and continued my run. i had one of the best runs ever...maybe its all the other people on the trail that keep me running, i dunno, but it was a really good run and im going to go back today for another. my goal is to not get lost today!

boring boring boring

i just fell asleep at work...i was sneaky though...i had a brochure open on my desk and my arm propped up so it looked like i was reading it...so yes, i kinda planned the sleeping but im just soo tired!

its 1115 and i have not done ONE work related thing since i got here at 815...maybe its time to start looking for another job in my free time...

plus i just found out that charlie mars is playing in austin on may 25th at antones. he's one of my new favorite artists - definitely check him out if youve never heard of him. but anyways, i CANT go bc ill freaking be in D.C. for our stupid national meeting for work. thats SO annoying - i wish i didnt about the show now. and this stupid work trip to D.C. - yeah im sure its a great place and all but having to spend 4 days straight there with a bunch of old people from work? not so great. so now im bummed...

i love my friends!!

so i went to college station for the weekend and had a great time as expected. got to see a lot of people i hadnt seen in forever and catch up which was really great. it seemed like a busy weekend and went by so fast and it was hard to leave. but here i am...back at work...another boring day...but heres a recap of the weekend of events...

i got in around dinner time on friday...made a stop into heb to get some cash...didnt have any good memories from that place although i did get to see my friend adam who was my favorite person to work with so that was good. then went to dinner at wings n more with the fairview boys minus rielly bc he was on a date...or formal..whatever. that was a lot of fun. mike and i made a little deal...if the sixers go all the way then he has to take me out to dinner...if the mavs go all the way then i have to buy him dinner. it was a safe bet bc the likelihood of either happening isnt likely...but say it does...looks like mike and i will be going on a date - that could be interesting...(in a good way mike, bc you know you're my pick out of the 3 ;)

saturday i ate lunch at square one with jaclyn which was fun as always. i spent a lot of the afternoon back at the boys house watching the draft/sixers-pistons game/mavs-rockets game. sadly the sixers lost..and to mike and peeples' dismay so did the mavs. heres an entertaining story - mikes friend amanda discovered that i had never met 'asian paul' and felt it necessary to call him right that second and have him come down to the house to meet me. she thought that since we were both called 'asian___' that we needed to meet each other. can we talk about how awkward that is? yeah, so asian paul rode his bike down and i was desperately trying to get patin out the door to play tennis before he got there but we werent fast enough. so asian paul gets there and then amanda feels it very necessary that we take a picture together!! as though there wouldnt be any other time that two asian people would be in the same setting together and she needed to really capture the moment. i protested for a while and realized that she wasnt going to let me leave till i did so i finally gave in and yes, i took a picture with asian paul. i was then able to make my getaway and try to convince myself that that whole situation didnt just happen...then, patin and i played an INTENSE game of tennis. ive never played so hard...he puts spin on every single hit so i was running all over the place the whole time. he won the set 6 games to 2 but he said i did get better and that was enough to make me happy. i love tennis! that nite we went to island party for a bit. i actually ran into my old roommate ashley from freshman and sophomore year which was crazy but so great - i hadnt seen her in forever! after IP, patin and i grabbed dinner and then went and hung out with meghan for a while. i hadnt seen her since last summer so it was so good to finally see her. after that it was back to the boys house for more lounging around. rielly worked out all the knots in my back - something i definitely miss having done on a regular basis.

sunday i ate lunch with andrea - another great catching up time. then most of sunday afternoon was spent like most sundays should be spent - on the couch watching tv and taking afternoon naps! those are the best and should definitely be incorporated into everyones sunday schedule. so after hours of tv/movie watching/napping i decided it was time to make the trip back home. so i said my goodbyes to alison and the boys house and headed on back. i was definitely sad to have to leave. its hard to leave a place which is so comfortable and where most of your good friends are and come back to a place where friends are sparse. also hard to leave a place where you have no responsibilities and everything is hanging out and fun and come back to a place where you have an 8-5 job and have to get up early. but i guess thats the difference between college life and the real world. and as hard as it was for me to break away from college life, i wouldnt for a second want to go back to having to study and take finals and do group projects. uuggh...just the thought of it stresses me out!

so anyways...thanks to all my friends in cs for hanging out with me - i had a great time!! and now its time to get back to work...

raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

can anyone name that tune? well, its from the sound of music and the official title of the song is called 'favorite things'...i think..actually i have no idea if thats the real title but i know the line in the chorus is 'and these are a few of my favorite things..' so anyways..ive found a new favorite thing...a new favorite snack. its fresh strawberries and fat free cool whip. its the greatest thing ever and way healthier than a bag of chips or a bowl of fettucine alfredo. dont be turned off by the fat free cool whip - its actually quite wonderful and ill be the first to say that im usually turned off by fat free, light, low fat stuff. probably bc i know what the real stuff tastes like so when you take stuff out like fat for instance i know im being deprived of optimal flavor. granted its helping me live longer, but sometimes you just gotta go all the way. like coke..i will never be a diet coke drinker. to me, drinking diet coke is like being told youre going to get a bowl of ice cream and then being handed a celery stick. yeah, in fact i dont mind my coke with a little vanilla and cherry flavoring added as well - notice the added sugars and calories? yeah, thats how i do it. so back to the cool whip..its suprisingly good for being fat free so you should definitely make the switch. and fresh strawberries? yummmm. you can never go wrong with those..plus its strawberry season so theyre real cheap these days.

moving on...im headed to cs straight from work for the weekend and am real excited about that. seeing old friends is always refreshing and hopefully ill be able to see some of those cute little mission kids that i miss so much! oooh..plus the nba playoffs start saturday - sixers/pistons!!

heres another thought..i bought a power inverter recently. it basically plugs into your car lighter outlet and then the other end is a 3 prong outlet. i had no real reason for buying it but i thought hey, you never know when youre going to want to plug something in to use in your car, right? christian and i thought of possibilities like a hair dryer...a toaster...ya know...stuff like that that could cut the time in the morning for getting ready for work bc if you can do that stuff during your commute to work then thats more time for sleeping in the morning! so anyways...the power inverter has stayed in its box in my car since i got it. well, last nite i have these genius ideas of practical uses. for one i play my ipod in my car using a cassete tape adapter...however, it does not charge the battery at the same time so i have to charge my ipod every nite. well, i can just plug the wall charger into the power inverter and the other into the ipod and thus the battery wont be drained while driving!! im a genius! second...my new digital camera came with rechargeable batteries that run out pretty quickly. well, say im on a trip somewhere and need to recharge my camera but am not in close proximity to an outlet to charge them in the camera dock? have no fear! plug the dock into the power inverter in the car and voila! the batteries are thus recharging! yes, be impressed...i know i am...and you thought my power inverter was just a silly purchase - ha!

ok..im going to do some work now bc ive been at work for 2 hours and have nothing to show for it...but i guess thats about the same as most days...

just call me mrs. iverson..

(picture missing)

ok not really bc AI already has a wife and i wouldn't want to be a homewrecker. but this is allen iverson and i love him. i love him bc he's so DANG good at basketball and just so ghetto fabulous. and did you know that the sixers are going to the playoffs this year? oh yes, the beginning of the season didnt look too promising but then they acquired chris webber and after some transitioning decided they did indeed want to go to the playoffs so they started playing a little better. and thus...here they are. and no, they probably wont go ALL the way although i would LOVE it if they did, but they have a great team. im not just a fan of the wonderfully skilled AI but also like little AI - andre iguodala, kyle korver, sammy dalembert, marc jackson, willie green etc. i cant even remember when i started liking the sixers or for why..i think it was a few years back when they were in the playoffs and i decided i was an AI fan...so then i just decided to like them and a loyal fan ive stayed. so yeah, playoffs start the 23rd and im real excited :) go sixers!

beautiful days

this is the lake where i run all the time now. speaking of, lets talk about this for a second...i...run. yes, let it soak in. me, the girl who in college would work out like once a month. me, the girl, who when my roommates would always ask me if i wanted to go run or work out with them would consistently get the response of, 'um..nope.' eventually they knew better and stopped asking and then when i would actually want to join them they would look at me like i had gone off the deep end. yeah, so i actually work out on a normal basis and its not even bc i suddenly have a desire to be healthy or anything although that would be a good reason. its mostly out of boredom and having nothing better to do. and ive gotten in such a routine that now if i dont work out i kinda feel guilty. this is hugely due to the fact that the weather has been beautiful for the last month or so and if you live in texas you know you have to take advantage of the good days. ive always been that way...if its nice outside i want to be out in it and if i dont get to go outside then im truly bummed. so, all this to say...once it starts hitting the 90s and its so humid that you feel like youre suffocating once you walk outside...i might just lose my new found work out hobby. i guess we'll see my level of dedication once summer rolls around. or maybe then i could take up swimming bc thats a cooler (temperature wise) form of exercise...oh wait...i cant swim worth a flip. i mean, i can swim to save my life but if you told me to go swim a few laps id probably drown. someone once told me that asians have dense bones so its harder to float...and thus maybe harder to swim??? blame everything on being asian..its easier that way. so yeah..probably wont take up swimming unless someone once to give me lessons. never got formal lessons as a kid...most kids do the whole swim team thing and start swimming at age 4...i think my neighborhood wasnt safe enough to play outside at much less go to the neighborhood pool so i was deprived of the young aged swimming. my parents try to make up for it by giving me lessons at barbara dennys swim school..i think that was the name of it, im not sure..there was a picture of a dolphin on the door though - i do remember that for some strange reason. anyways...yeah back to the lessons...i remember all the kids in my class were like 5 and 6. i however was like TWELVE. in illustrative terms, they were like flipper and i was shamu. so that was...embarrassing, humbling, made me real angry at my parents to say the least. oh and even with all that...i didnt really learn how to swim well. probably bc i refused to go to classes halfway thru to save my pride. yeah...neat story huh? so what was i talking about? oh yeah...being freaking hot when summer comes. it doesnt help that im like the sweatiest girl ever and sweat profusely the second heat hits me - thats always been cool, i bet the boys love the sweaty girls. anyways...now im just rambling so im going to stop. but yeah, here's where i go running...its brushy creek lake and its beautiful and theres miles of running trails which is really great. and its like 2 minutes from my apt which aint bad either!

a pretty good weekend

ever been to an art car parade? well, i had never either but i went to one on saturday. basically people put a whole heck of a lot of time into decorating their cars or some other sort of vehicle and then there's a parade. yeah, so i checked it out downtown on saturday and it was pretty cool.

then i went to the 'mansion' in westlake that my friend was housesitting at for the weekend. a bunch of us girls laid out all day...got some dinner and margaritas and then relaxed in the hot tub for the rest of the nite. oh wait, i forgot the best part of the evening - taboo. yeah, as i have mentioned before in previous entries, games bring out the best, worst, and funniest of people. i love games - especially ones that involve quick blurted out responses with little thinking beforehand...its so easy to misunderstand things or take things completely wrong or innapropriately...i usually fall into the latter group - when will i ever grow up? needless to say it was another game where i was crying and gasping for air bc i was laughing so hard...so besides that, a very relaxing day.

today i did normal sunday afternoon stuff...slept in...cleaned a little..did some laundry...went running. then went to church tonite which was really good and praise and worship was really awesome. now im watching an abc family movie bc i love them and christian, kel and i always watched them at the welsh house. good memories...speaking of cs..i think im going to go there this weekend to play - looking forward to it already!

what's been goin on...

nothing too exciting to report from my life...

last thursday i shot a handgun for the first time in my life. shot it a lot actually. bryan and i went shooting and basically he just wanted to show off his new gun to me so i obliged. its amazing how much power a little gun has..i was too afraid to shoot the rifle bc the backfire seemed painful. maybe some day...

thursday i was supposed to have a new digital camera a bought off woot.com delivered. well, on thurs. the online tracking page said that fedex had indeed delivered it to my front door while i was at work. well when i got home there was nothing on my front door so i sadly assumed that a neighbor jacked it. i called my apt. office on friday and to my utter relief i found out that it was indeed brought to the front office. good choice, fed ex man.

saturday i went to a bridal shower for my friend alyssa. the four of us girls who were under the age of 40 stuck together and had a pretty good time. i cant wait to get married and get all the presents...of course ill be more excited about marrying my husband, not the presents :)

didnt do much else all weekend...went running a couple of times around the lake up the road. its so great to run outside when the weather is so nice...it will be real sad when it starts to hit the nineties and its 150% humidity.

now im off to church at austin stone

im so famous

so on sunday i went running up the road at brushy creek park that has a lake and lots of running trails - its pretty great. well..at the end of my run i sometimes like to 'sprint' just to get all my energy out and really feel like i worked hard...plus, rielly says sprints are the answer to everything so maybe im seeing if theres any truth to that.

so on sunday..im 'sprinting' and next thing i know, this lady is taking a picture of me! it was so weird...she took it when i was about 25 feet away from her and when i ran past her i definitely didnt make eye contact bc it was such a strange situation...so here are my guesses as to what the picture was for:

*she needed a picture to go along with an article she's writing entitled, "how out of shape are you? and should you be sweating this much?"

*she needed a pic to go along with an article she's writing entitled, "brushy creek area boasts diversity..look, shes asian!"

*she needed a pic to go along with an article she's writing entitled, "ipod sales soar as customers realize the greatness of this running companion"

*she has a real cute, christian, single, 20something son/nephew/grandson who is looking for a girlfriend and she thought i was just his type so she decided to take a pic of me to show him

ok i realize my final thought was a little far fetched...but YOU NEVER KNOW!!!

anyways...maybe she was just trying to waste film so that she could go get her pictures developed...regardless, i felt famous for like point 2 seconds and thought i would share...and if i happen to show up on the cover of runner's world, could you let me know? thanks.

annoying things

here are two things that annoy me: westlake women and non-wavers.

westlake women: or more like, the westlake trophy wives. first of all let me say that this is not an annoyance with ALL women/moms in the westlake region, just some. maybe i need to be more specific...westlake women who dont work probably bc their husband makes so much money who sport their high class bmw and lexus suvs who dont EVER look behind them when backing out in parking lots bc they think they own the road. yeah, i go to the post office in a westlake shopping center about once a week for work and almost every time im guaranteed to have this happen. just bc youre rich, doesnt mean you dont have to pay attention to less expensive cars around you. one day your nice little lexus is gonna get in a wreck and the only thing im going to have to say about that is, 'sorry bout ya.'

another thing. whatever happened to the common courtesy wave? i thought that this was like a worldwide understood thing. if youre trying to get into a different lane, blinker blinkin, and someone slows down to let you in...you wave right? im not talkin about when theres an open gap in traffic and you just get in the lane...im talking about when someone actually lets you in bc theyre being a nice driver. i feel like the least you can do in that situation is throw a little wave up. yeah, evidently thats not common anymore and that makes me sad. so all you non-wavers out there..shame on you.

those are my annoyances for the time being.

a re-cap of the weekend...beautiful, beautiful weather! went running a couple of times outside bc i just didnt wanna stay inside. got to see matt wertz friday nite - good times. the rest of the weekend was pretty chill but good. no bible study tonite so im going to have to choose between ncaa and 24. tomorrow theres a big crawfish boil at zilker with my church so that should be fun...good memories from the first time i went to a crawfish boil :)

for now..time to work, or pretend to...

a sad day in the world of comedy

when i heard yesterday that mitch hedberg passed away, i was disappointed to find out it wasn't an april fools joke...

http://www.mitchhedberg.net/

in honor of someone who made me laugh a lot:
"I wrote a letter to my dad- I wrote, I really enjoy being here. But I accidently wrote rarely, instead of really. But I still wanted to use it, so I crossed it out and wrote I rarely drive steamboats, Dad. There's a lot you don't know about me. Quit trying to act like I'm a steamboat operator. This letter took a harsh turn right away."

"I was walking down the street with my friend and he said "I hear music" As though there's another way you can take it in. Youre not special. That's how I receive it too. I tried to taste it, but it did not work."

"I opened a yogurt and underneath the lid it said "please try again" as though they were having a contest that I was unaware of. I thought maybe I had opened the yogurt wrong. Or maybe Yoplait was trying to inspire me. Come on Mitch, don't give up! An inspirational message from your friends at Yoplait, fruit on the bottom, hope on top."

"When you go a restaurant on the weekends it's busy so they start a waiting list. They say Dufrane, party of two, table ready for Dufrane, party of two , and if no one answers they'll say the name again, Dufrane, party of two. But then if no one answers, they'll move on to the next name. Bush, party of three. Yeah, but what happened to the Dufranes? No one seems to care. Who can eat at a time like this? People are missing! You people are selfish! The Dufranes are in someone's trunk right now, with duct tape over their mouths and they're hungry. We need help! Bush, search party of three. You can eat once you find the Dufranes."

no one wants to learn about abstinence today...

its yet another slow day at work thus allowing plenty of free time to share a piece of my mind with you.

this week hasnt been much different than any other...last nite however i had the pleasure of hearing donald miller talk on UT campus for their rez week stuff. he talked for about 45 minutes on various topics with some references to parts of his different books. he talks a lot like he writes which is cool bc you see that what he is writing is really who he is and what he's about. so that was enjoyable...and once again ill do some free advertising for him - read blue like jazz and/or searching for God knows what. i think theyre both great reads...theres a good reason why theyre so trendy right now.

tonite some girls and i are going out to dinner and then to hear matt wertz downtown which should be fun times. tomorrow, ryan parker is playing at 3rd floor in bryan so you should go support him if you can. i already had plans so i cant be there but he's an up and coming rock star and dont you wanna say that you were there when he first was paving his way to stardom? im good for all sorts of advertising arent i? just tell me something great about yourself and ill do a name drop ;)

so heres my latest endeavor as i like to call it. its called, 'project sell all my stuff and get a laptop'. yep...ive decided having a laptop would be nice bc its so much smaller and moving/traveling friendly and seems like a decent investment. lucky for me i just bought a new computer last summer so i can hopefully get a good sum of money when i try to resell it. and along with that i will be selling a variety of other things...computer accessories, electronic gadgets, clothes, my body...oh wait, not that. so...this endeavor will begin soon and then once i sell enough stuff then ill buy a laptop. and its not like im selling stuff i need - its all stuff i dont need or use but is in great condition and could be better used by other people...so if you wanna buy a pretty new, nice computer let me know...ill even keep the 15gigs of music on there for ya :)

so thats what ill be up to for a while...we'll see how it goes..

not much else going on...the weather is supposed to be absolutely beautiful this weekend so im looking forward to enjoying that...you should too!

until next time...
